Every athlete deserves a trusted adult in their corner

Athlete Advocacy & Mentorship for International Basketball Players

International high school and college basketball players living in the United States without their parents face decisions, transitions, and challenges that most young people navigate with their families by their sides.

HoopsHome provides consistent mentorship and real-world guidance — like a parent would — so athletes can navigate life with confidence, wisdom, and trusted support.

More Than Check-Ins

HoopsHome Athlete Advocacy & Mentorship is not surface-level support. It is showing up — consistently, protectively, and with the athlete's long-term well-being at the center.

Whether navigating cultural adjustment, making high-stakes decisions, or simply needing someone who cares, athletes have a trusted adult who walks alongside them. Our mentorship works hand in hand with safe housing and athlete protection services to ensure every young person has the support they deserve.

You're not figuring this out alone. We're here.

What Athlete & Advocacy and Mentorship Provides

CONSISTENT RELATIONSHIP-BASED SUPPORT

Regular check-ins, game attendance, and steady presence through key moments — not just when things go wrong, but throughout the athlete's journey.

Mentorship is built on trust, consistency, and being the adult who shows up when it matters most.

LIFE SKILLS AND REAL-WORLD NAVIGATION

Help navigating systems that feel overwhelming — school expectations, healthcare, banking, transportation, cultural adjustment, and everyday decisions.

We teach athletes how to advocate for themselves while ensuring they have backup when they need it. When housing or emergency needs arise, we connect athletes to our Housing Program and Emergency Support Fund.

GUIDANCE THROUGH HIGH-STAKES DECISIONS

Support during recruiting, college applications, transfer decisions, and opportunities tied to their athletic and personal futures.

Athletes receive honest guidance to evaluate choices, recognize red flags, and make decisions that protect their long-term well-being — not just what benefits others. This includes connection to our Athlete Protection & Legal Navigation resources when needed.

Athletes Navigating Life Far From Home

HoopsHome Athlete Advocacy & Mentorship supports international high school and college basketball players (ages 14–22) living in the United States without their parents.

Athletes are typically referred by coaches, schools, or other athletes — and mentorship begins from the moment they arrive with a Welcome Home Box and continues throughout their time in the U.S.

Whether an athlete needs help adjusting to a new culture, making wise decisions about their future, or simply having a consistent adult presence they can trust, HoopsHome mentors are here — through the wins, the setbacks, and everything in between.

When Athletes Need Someone in Their Corner

  • Athletes are usually referred by coaches, school staff, or other athletes already connected to HoopsHome. Once connected, we match the athlete with a mentor and begin regular check-ins. Reach out to start the connection.

  • Mentorship includes regular communication (texts, calls, video chats), attending games when possible, helping navigate real-life challenges, and being a consistent presence the athlete can count on. It's relationship-based, not transactional.

  • Yes. HoopsHome mentors provide guidance during college visits, recruiting conversations, transfer decisions, and evaluating opportunities. We help athletes ask the right questions and make informed choices that prioritize their well-being and future.

  • HoopsHome mentors advocate for the athlete and connect them to appropriate resources, including our Athlete Protection & Legal Navigation program. We don't abandon athletes when things get hard — we step in, speak up, and help them find safety and solutions.

  • Coaches and school staff can contact HoopsHome directly to refer an athlete. We'll discuss the athlete's needs and begin building a mentorship relationship that supports them throughout their time in the U.S.
