You deserve to know when something isn't right — and what to do about it.

HoopsHome protects international basketball players from exploitation and unsafe situations.

International high school and college basketball players living in the United States without their parents can be targeted by people who see an opportunity rather than as young people who deserve protection.

HoopsHome helps athletes recognize red flags, understand their rights, and access trusted support when high-stakes decisions or unsafe situations arise.

More Than a Warning

Athlete Protection & Legal Navigation isn't about creating fear — it's about creating power.

It's ensuring athletes can identify manipulation, pressure, and exploitation before they're in too deep. It's making sure no young person has to navigate legal complexity, contractual pressure, or unsafe situations alone.

We work alongside our housing and mentorship programs to ensure athletes have both physical safety and the knowledge to protect themselves.

You're not being paranoid. You're being smart.

What Athlete Protection & Legal Navigation Provides

RECOGNIZING RED FLAGS

Education to identify warning signs — pressure to sign contracts without representation, requests for money or payments, isolation from trusted adults, or situations that don't feel right.

Athletes learn what exploitation looks like so they can speak up before it's too late.

UNDERSTANDING RIGHTS & RISKS

Guidance to evaluate opportunities, relationships, and high-stakes decisions — from NIL deals and recruiting agreements to housing arrangements and visa compliance.

We help athletes ask the right questions and understand what they're agreeing to before they commit. When legal guidance is needed, we connect athletes to our emergency support resources.

CONNECTION TO TRUSTED LEGAL RESOURCES

HoopsHome does not provide legal representation. Instead, we connect athletes to reputable legal advocates, immigration attorneys, and compliance experts when situations require professional support.

We stand with athletes through high-pressure moments, so they're never forced to navigate them alone. This often works hand in hand with our advocacy and mentorship program.

When Athletes need protection the most

Athlete Protection & Legal Navigation supports international high school and college basketball players (ages 14–22) living in the United States without their parents.

Athletes are typically referred by coaches, school staff, mentors, or other trusted contacts when:

  • Someone is pressuring them to make a quick decision

  • They're being asked to sign something they don't understand

  • A living situation feels unsafe or exploitative

  • They're facing threats, manipulation, or isolation

  • They need urgent relocation or intervention planning

Whether an athlete needs help evaluating a recruiting offer, escaping an unsafe housing situation, or understanding their visa status, HoopsHome provides advocacy, planning, and connection to the right resources.

When Athletes Face High-Stakes Decisions

  • Pressure to sign contracts without time to review or consult trusted adults. Requests for money, payments, or financial commitments. Isolation from coaches, teammates, or family. Housing or relationships that feel controlling or unsafe. Promises that sound too good to be true.

If something doesn't feel right, it's worth asking questions. Reach out to HoopsHome anytime.

  • Yes. We help athletes understand what they're being asked to commit to and connect them to legal resources when professional review is needed. It's always better to ask questions before signing than to regret it later.

  • Coaches and school staff can contact HoopsHome directly to discuss an athlete's situation. We'll work together to assess risks and coordinate appropriate support — whether that's education, advocacy, or connection to legal resources.

No athlete should have to choose between their dream and their safety.

HoopsHome ensures they never have to.
