When school closes, home shouldn’t disappear

Safe Housing for International Basketball Players in the United States

International high school and college basketball players living in the United States without their parents often face the hardest moments off the court — especially during school breaks, holidays, or emergencies.

HoopsHome Housing ensures they are not alone — and never without a place to land.

More Than a Place to Stay

HoopsHome Housing is not a transactional shelter. It is protection — working alongside our Athlete Advocacy & Mentorship program to ensure athletes have both a safe home and trusted guidance when they need it most.

It is a warm meal, a steady routine, a safe adult presence, and the reassurance every young person deserves:

You belong here. You are safe. You are not on your own.

What HoopsHome Housing Provides

FLEXIBLE STAY OPTIONS

Short-term stays range from 1–7 days for weekends, urgent needs, or brief transitions.

Transitional stays range from one week up to three months — covering school breaks, summer housing, or situations requiring longer-term stability through our Emergency Support Fund.

Every stay is shaped by the athlete's need and what's available.

WHERE ATHLETES STAY

Housing includes the HoopsHome House in Wisconsin and a carefully screened network of host families across the United States.

Host families provide more than a bed — they offer meals, transportation, routines, and the kind of steady presence that helps athletes feel grounded when everything else feels uncertain. From the moment athletes arrive, they receive a Welcome Home Box to help them feel seen and cared for.

HOW WE KEEP ATHLETES SAFE

Every host family participates in:

  • Application and interview process

  • Background checks

  • Reference verification

  • Ongoing athlete check-ins with HoopsHome

Safety is not assumed. It is built in, monitored, and protected at every step — part of our broader commitment to Athlete Protection and Advocacy.

When Athletes Need a Safe Place to Land

HoopsHome Housing supports international high school and college basketball players (ages 14–22) living in the United States without their parents.

Athletes are typically referred by coaches, schools, or other trusted contacts — and housing is provided based on need, urgency, and availability.

Whether an athlete needs a safe place during Thanksgiving break, emergency support after a sudden housing disruption, or a stable home base during summer, HoopsHome is here. Our mentorship program ensures athletes have consistent support beyond just housing — helping them navigate decisions, build confidence, and thrive.

When Athletes Need a Safe Place to Land

  • We respond quickly. Athletes or their referring contacts reach out to HoopsHome, and we work to coordinate safe housing as soon as possible — whether through the HoopsHome House or a vetted host family near the athlete's location. In urgent situations, our Emergency Support Fund can help cover immediate travel or housing costs.

  • Most athletes are referred by coaches (both international and domestic), school staff, or other athletes who've been supported by HoopsHome. Families and trusted contacts can also reach out directly through our support request page.

  • Host families complete an application, participate in an interview and housing check (virtual or in-person), undergo background checks, and provide references. Athletes also check in directly with HoopsHome to ensure their safety and well-being throughout their stay. Learn more about our athlete protection standards.

  • Short-term stays typically range from 1 to 7 days. Transitional stays can extend from one week up to three months, depending on the athlete's situation and available resources.

  • Coaches and school staff can contact HoopsHome directly through our website or by email. We'll work together to understand the athlete's needs and coordinate appropriate housing support.

No athlete should ever have to wonder where they will sleep when the season pauses.

HoopsHome is here — and the door stays open.
